Reference Services
The reference collection is a non-circulating collection that contains a variety of reference materials including but not limited to encyclopedias, dictionaries, bibliographies, directories, almanacs, yearbooks, biographies, geographical sources, handbooks, indexes and abstracts … etc. both in print and electronic formats. It consists of over 10,600 volumes in Beirut Campus Library and 13,800 volumes in Byblos Campus Library. In addition, LAU Libraries provide access to more than 90 electronic resources and web connectivity to the wealth of information available from sites around the world.
The mission of the Reference Department is to effectively meet the educational and research needs of LAU users by bridging the libraries resources and the potential users through a variety of services such as:
- Training sessions on the use of library resources, research consultation, and library orientation tours
- In-person service offered at the Reference Desk
- Instant Messenger service (Ask a Librarian) whereby librarians are available online during a set schedule to help end-users identify and retrieve the information and resources needed for their study, research, or personal use.
- E-mail service whereby user queries are answered within two business days.
