Circulation information
Who may use the library:

This is a service offered to the students, faculty and staff with valid LAU identification. Alumni, guests and friends of the Library are welcome with appropriate identification (For details, click here).
Loan period:
Books, CDs, diskettes, DVDs, videos, e-book readers (iPads, Kindles, and Sony-Readers) can be checked out of the Library according to set of rules and regulations. In addition, laptops can be borrowed for 2 hours inside library premises renewable twice for students usage only.

Renewals, returns and reservations:
Materials may be renewed twice if no other borrower has requested them. Users can renew their books online "My Account" without coming physically to the Library and without re-stamping the new date.
- All eligible borrowers can reserve books already on loan either online or in person at the Circulation Desk.
- When a requested book is returned to the Library, a special form is e-mailed to the requester informing him/her of the book’s availability.
Fines and lost book charges:
Fines are $0.50/day/item for circulated books and $5/hr for laptops and Kindles. Users who have overdue materials or outstanding fines will lose borrowing privileges until cleared. In case a borrowed book is lost, user will be charged the replacement cost plus half its cost as handling and processing fees.
Overdue payment is currently and automatically recorded by the Banner system in the Business Office. No money transactions are settled at the Circulation Desk.
Reserves:
Materials for course assignments and other heavily used items, such as, books, photocopies, documents, etc., are held at the Circulation Desk. They may be used on premises only. For assistance, please contact::

It is worth noting that a variety of course materials are also available online through e-Reserve.
N.B.: If a faculty member requests an item on loan to be put on the reserve shelf for class use, this loan will be recalled immediately from the borrower.
Intercampus Loan:
The purpose of the Intercampus Loan service is to expand the range of materials available to library users. It provides access to those materials not currently available at the requester’s primary library, whether it is the Riyad Nassar Library (Beirut Campus), or the Byblos Campus Library. LAU faculty, staff, and registered students may request books through this service regardless of location.
Requested materials should arrive within two working days and will be held for users at the Circulation Desk for one week. A valid ID is required to check out requested items.
By checking the Library OPAC "My Account" user can check the status of his/her request and its availability. General borrowing rules apply to this service.

Discipline:
- Eating, drinking and smoking are not permitted in the Libraries.
- • Certain food and beverages are allowed in most areas of the Riyad Nassar library as long as guidelines are respected. Please visit the LAU libraries’ website for more information.
- There are severe penalties for theft or mutilation of Library properties. For your own protection, do not leave your properties unattended while in the Library.
- Chatting, Conversation, and group studying are only allowed in Riyad Nassar Library floors 4, 5, 6,12 & 13. Noise should be kept to a minimum in the other reading areas.
- Mobile phones should be silenced before entering the Libraries.
- Clearance must be obtained from the Library before graduation or for inter-campus transfer.
Locating Materials:
All library holdings except periodicals bear a shelfmark. Find the shelfmark by using the Library Catalog online, it is accessible on/off campus. Materials are arranged in Call Number order on the shelves in their respective areas. Call number location charts are posted throughout the Library. User may also ask staff at the Circulation Desk or any Information Desk for assistance in finding the materials. Each student should use his/her ID to borrow library items. He/she is responsible for anything checked out under his/her name.
Special Materials:
- Women collection (Riyad Nassar Library only): This collection parallels the Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World. It includes books, pamphlets, documents and flyers on women’s subjects in both English and Arabic. They are shelved separately and marked with the letter "W" at the top of the shelfmark. This method groups related materials for easy location and access by researchers on women’s issues. General borrowing rules apply to this collection.
- Children’s collection (Riyad Nassar Library only): This collection is used by Creative Dramatics, Children’s Literature, and other courses offered within the Education major. All library users may borrow items from this collection. General borrowing rules apply to this collection.
- Audio/Visual collection: This collection includes a variety of subjects related to many courses in business, pharmacy, education, sciences, history, politics, operas, theater, art, classical music, and cinema studies. Items from this collection may be borrowed on short loan basis only (2 days).
- Closed circulation collection and research topics: This collection includes out-of-print, aged and rare books, as well as certain worn-out books on Lebanon that are out of print. Books in closed circulation are marked "C.C." and may be used inside the Libraries only. Research topics or graduate students projects are also kept in dedicated areas and are marked with "RT" or "RP". They may be used inside the libraries only.
- Islamic art and architecture collection: (Riyad Nassar Library only): This collection is meant to enrich the courses on design in general and on Islamic art and Culture in particular. It covers the historical, theoretical, philosophical and practical aspects of such heritage. General borrowing rules apply to this collection.
- Practice teaching: (Riyad Nassar Library only): This collection is mainly used by student majoring in Education. General borrowing rules apply to this collection.
Photocopying:
The photocopy machines in the Libraries are self-service. Magnetic cards should be purchased from vending machines located in the Libraries. It costs L.L. 5,000 and allows 100 copies. Color photocopying is also available; each copy costs L.L. 500.
